Here's what's keeping us buzzing...

Fall Update

Open House 2024
Our open house this October was buzzing! This year we had our best turnout yet, amazing weather, a honeybee demo by Tim and more. Hopefully you were able to attend and if not, next year we will of course have another one. (Special thanks to our friend and Bee Backer Andrea for taking all the great pictures that day).

Rhubarb vs Banana Peels?
In our phase I trial, the verdict is in. In summary, the rhubarb leaves did tend to help slightly with mites and colony strength, although this could also be due to chance. We will be doing a more aggressive test with them in 2025. Banana peels seemed to not have much of an effect compared to control hives. We have also devised a gentler delivery method of formic acid to try out against the varroa mite in 2025! A slower, gentler method should be easier on the bees and work against the mite for a longer period of timeā€¦details to follow next spring.
