Flowers of the Sea
35 mm photograph
These are tube worms in the Caribbean Sea. The worms build ceramic stalks for mechanical protection. They extend their bodies out and open the flowery features which collect planktonic food particles. The flowerlike blossoms are less than 1 inch in diameter and can be retracted at the slightest hint of danger. This photo was taken near the Turks & Caicos Islands
